Incorrect Composition
Correct Composition

There are lots of different ways on getting your composition correct, in the example it was making sure the birds head was positioned correctly and not having to much clutter in the background.

In the incorrect image you can see that the photograph was taken face on to the bird which has made its face and body look rather flat also causing a hard shadow under its beak but by moving yourself to the side of the bird and waiting also for the bird to move its head a little and by cropping in closer you can gain a better view of the face and a stronger composition and impact as shown here in the correct image

 

This can also be used for all kinds of portraiture, by trying different angles, cropping and backgrounds you can produce some amazing images.
